London Welsh Women 0
Henley Hawks Women 5
Henley Hawks Women kicked off their season in good style against London
Welsh on the Old Deer Park reserve pitch under the gaze of Kew Garden’s
pagoda.
In a close fought encounter Henley always had the edge but it was not
until midway into the 2nd half that they secured the their vital try.
A probing kick from Henley’s fly half eluded the Welsh full back
enabling the Henley backs to hack on just short of the try line. Here
the ball was gathered and recycled before lock Sarah Hibber powered
over in the corner.
Despite the look of the scoreline, except for a straightforward penalty
attempt early in the 2nd half hooked wide, London Welsh seldom seriously
threatened.
Henley on the other hand went close to adding to their score on numerous
occasions. New coach Mark Tyrell clearly has a solid squad of players
to work with and this was the overriding impression. Henley looked very
competent in every position 1 through to 15.
Henley’s new captain Carly Dudding was in sharp form at scrum half
until a wrist injury forced her off near half time. Cheered on by the
final result hopefully she won’t be out for long.
